Malai Peda
Peda or Pheda is a sweet dish from the Indian sub-continent which is prepared using Khoa or Khoya (thickened dried whole milk), traditional flavourings and sugar. This is one of my husband's favourite sweet dish and this is how it is prepared in my kitchen.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Makes: 22 pieces
Cooking method: Microwave or Stove top
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 6 cardamoms (in powder form)
- 1 can condensed milk
- 2 cup milk powder - option 1) OR 1 1/2 cup fresh milk + 1 sp corn flour + 1/4 sp. lemon juice - option 2)
- 1/4 cup nuts for garnishing (pista, almond or dry grapes)
Method:(I used microwave method)
- Melt butter for 1 minute (on high setting)
- to this add milk powder & condensed milk, mix gently
- microwave everything again for 3-4 minutes (mixing every 1 minute)
- At this stage, the mixture will be thickened, add cardamom powder and mix well, allow it to cool for 10 minutes
- out of this mixture, make round balls, flatten to form pedas, decorate on top with your favourite dry fruits/nuts; Enjoy this irresistible Indian delicacy
