Second most popular State in the Western and Central Peninsular Region of INDIA where majority of population speak "MARATHI" language;  MUMBAI being State's Capital City.


Maharashtrian Cuisine covers a range of dishes such as Jowar, Bajri, Rice,  Wheat, Lentils, Vegetables, Fruits form staple food of Maharashtrian Diet.  Some of the popular traditional dishes include Puran Poli (similar to South Indian dish Bele Holige | ಬೇಳೆ ಹೋಳಿಗೆ |  ಬೇಳೆ ಓಬ್ಬಟ್ಟು ), 

Modak (similar to South Indian dish Kadubu | ಕಡುಬು ).


Fast food items (also street food) such as batata vada, misal pav, pav bhaji, vada pav etc., are the dishes which became popular in the last 50 years.

KANDA means Onions, POHA means flattened rice (Avalakki | ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ) 

 

quick & easy, healthy & tasty breakfast dish (this dish is similar to South Indian dish "Ooggarane Avalakki" (ಓಗ್ಗರಣೆ ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ) which has few additional ingredients added to it such as hing, chana, urud dal for tempering).


2 CUP FLATTENED RICE


WASH, DRAIN EXCESS WATER, KEEP ASIDE


FEW GREEN CHILLIES, CURRY & CORIANDER LEAVES


1 CHOPPED ONION


1 TSP. EACH CUMIN SEEDS & ROASTED PEANUTS


IN A PAN, HEAT 4 TBSPS. OF OIL




ADD 1 TSP. MUSTARD SEEDS



WAIT FOR MUSTARD SEEDS TO START SPLUTTERING, THEN ADD 1 TSP. CUMIN SEEDS AND WAIT UNTIL SEEDS TURN INTO GOLDEN BROWN COLOUR


ADD 1 TSP. TURMERIC POWDER


ADD 1 TSP. ROASTED PEANUTS


ADD CHOPPED ONIONS AND FRY UNTIL ONIONS ARE COOKED 


ADD 1 TSP. SUGAR


ADD CHILLI, CURRY & CORIANDER LEAVES


ADD 1/2 CUP COCONUT


ADD LEMON JUICE


ADD SALT TO TASTE


ADD DRAINED FLATTENED RICE



MIX WELL TO COMBINE.  SERVE HOT
