PHILLIP ISLAND - Australian Island, 140 kms south-southeast of Melbourne, Victoria which is named after Governor of New South Wales Phillip Anderson.
ISLAND is popular for its freely roaming wallabies & kangaroos, its shallow waters of the Western Port which forms a natural breakwater and is part of the Bass Coast Shire. Island is an important bird area, identified by BirdLife International which supports significant populations of fairy penguins, short-tailed shearwaters and pacific gulls.
