For Ven (spicy) Pongal - skip palm sugar, cardamom & raisins and use pepper corns, cloves, mustard & cumin seeds (for seasoning).

Sweet Pongal
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice, 1/2 cup roasted moong dal, 1 cup jaggery (palm sugar),
1/4 cup ghee, few cashews & raisins, 1/2 tsp. cardamom powder, 2
cups each of milk & water to cook rice & dal.
Method -
Pressure cook roasted moong dal and rice using water and milk. Fry
cashews & raisins in ghee and keep it aside. Melt jaggery with 1
cup of water, bring it to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for further 5
minutes. Turn of heat and allow it to cook for a while. To this
jaggery syrup, add your cooked rice and moong dal and mix with fried
cashews & raisins. Cover and simmer until whole mixture comes
together into a thick and sticky mass. Turn off heat, allow it to cool
for 10 minutes and then serve.
