Murukku (ಚಕ್ಲಿ)










Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups - rice flour (washed, soaked for 15 minutes, dried, roasted and then blended into smooth powder)
  • 1/2 cup - urud dal (washed, soaked for 1/2 hour, dried, roasted and then blended into smooth powder)
  • 1 tsp. each of - cumin seeds & white sesame seeds
  • pinch of hing powder
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep frying
  • ghee or hot oil - 4 tsp.


Method

  • In a large bowl, add all the ingredients (except oil for deep frying), and mix well using water and prepare a smooth dough (dough consistency to puri / chapati dough).  Rest this dough covered for 15 minutes



  • Using the muruku making machine, prepare chakli by deep frying in hot oil until golden brown.

  • Remove from heat and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil from muruku

  • When cool, store in an air tight container.
  • Can be served as an afternoon snack with coffee or tea
