TURKISH Falafel plate served with dip & vegetables








Falafel - a traditional Arab food, fried vegetarian / vegan fritters often served with hummus (chickpeas) and Tzatziki (yogurt based) dip / sauce.  It is a filling and nourishing meal when served with fresh vegetables.

Falafel is indeed a Vegan food, great source of protein, low in fat and no cholesterol when fried it in heart healthy canola / olive oils.

Olive oil contains a potent mix of antioxidants that can lower your "bad" (LDL) cholesterol but leave your "good" (HDL) cholesterol untouched. 

Canola oil is one of the best oils for heart health. Made from crushed rapeseeds, it has less saturated fat than any other oil commonly used in some parts of the world.



Ingredients for making Falafel

2 cup - chickpeas, soaked overnight
4 garlic pods
1 large onion
1/2 cup fresh parsley leaves
1/4 cup plain flour
salt to taste
pepper powder to taste
2 tsp. each cumin seeds & grounded coriander powder 
pinch of cardamom powder
Olive or Canola oil for frying

FOR SERVING - fresh vegetables - tabouli, lettuce leaves, parsley leaves, grated carrots, chopped onions,
Hummus & Tzatziki dips





Method



Soak chickpeas overnight, wash, drain and place in a food processor
place all other ingredients (except oil for deep frying) blend coarsely
Refrigerate this mixture for about 30 minutes
Shape this mixture into patties
Heat oil in a frying pan, fry them until golden brown



TO SERVE AS A FALAFEL PLATE

In a plate, arrange vegetables & tabouli, 
Place 3 fried Falafels on top, 
Place 2 tsps. of Hummus & Tzatziki dips on both sides
