MAHARASHTRIAN - MODAK









Ingredients & Method - (using below ingredients, 
make a smooth dough and let it rest for half hour)

  • 1 cup wheat flour (100% whole wheat atta used)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. hot oil
  • Enough water to knead the dough
For Filling - (Mix below ingredients, cook on low flame 
until mixture is cooked and dry, allow it to cool)

  • 1/2 cup dry coconut
  • 1 tsp. white poppy seeds (gasagase)
  • 1/2 tsp. cardamom powder
  • Pinch of nutmeg powder 
  • Powdered jaggery to taste
  • Little water

Prepare small balls from the dough, roll them into thin and small circle. Add Jaggery filling in the centre, bring all sides together to close and to make Modak shapes.  Deep Fry them on medium flame until golden brown.  Remove from heat and place them on a kitchen towel to remove any excess oil.  Served warm or cold.
