Moong Dal Vada (ಹೆಸರುಬೇಳೆ ವಡೆ)





Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup moong dal (dry roasted and grinded into coarse powder)
  • 1 tsp maize flour
  • salt to taste
  • green chillies to taste
  • pinch of turmeric & hing powders
  • 1/4 tsp. roasted cumin powder (dry roasted and powdered)
  • 1/2" freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
  • Finely chopped onion and mint leaves  - optional (I have added these for extra flavour)
  • enough water to make smooth and thick batter
  • oil for deep frying



Method
  • Dry roast moong dal and cumin seeds and grind into coarse powder
  • In a large mixing bowl, add all the ingredients (except oil) and mix well to combine
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed frying pan,  drop a spoonful of prepared batter and deep fry them until golden brown
  • Remove from heat, drain any excess oil by placing them on a paper towel
  • Serve hot with any chutneys
