Moong Dal Vada (ಹೆಸರುಬೇಳೆ ವಡೆ)
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup moong dal (dry roasted and grinded into coarse powder)
- 1 tsp maize flour
- salt to taste
- green chillies to taste
- pinch of turmeric & hing powders
- 1/4 tsp. roasted cumin powder (dry roasted and powdered)
- 1/2" freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
- Finely chopped onion and mint leaves - optional (I have added these for extra flavour)
- enough water to make smooth and thick batter
- oil for deep frying
Method
- Dry roast moong dal and cumin seeds and grind into coarse powder
- In a large mixing bowl, add all the ingredients (except oil) and mix well to combine
- Heat oil in a heavy bottomed frying pan, drop a spoonful of prepared batter and deep fry them until golden brown
- Remove from heat, drain any excess oil by placing them on a paper towel
- Serve hot with any chutneys
