BENGALURU - Avarekalu Kadubu | ಅವರೇಕಾಳು ಕಡುಬು



Karnataka special - Avarekalu kadubu (also known as "Battalu Kadubu")













Ingredients – 1 cup rice rava (akki tari), 2 tsps. grated coconut, few curry and coriander leaves, salt to taste, 2 cups water, 1 cup cooked avarekalu (surti lilva beans).


For seasoning – ½ tsp. each of mustard seeds, Bengal gram, urud dal, pinch of hing (asafoetida powder), 2tsps. Oil.




Method – In a pan, heat oil and do the seasoning of mustard seeds & dals, add coriander & curry leaves and fry for few seconds.  Add cooked avarekalu, coconut, salt & water and bring the water to boil.  To this add rice rava and keep cooking on a medium flame till it is done.  Remove from stove and let it cool for few minutes.  Make small balls from this upma dough and steam cook them for 10 minutes.  Can be served as it is or serve with any chutney of your choice.
