Aloo-Mirch in Gravy


Aloo-Mirch Masala (Potato-Capsicum gravy)


Ingredients: (serves 3-4 people)
  • 3-4 large potatoes peeled and cut into medium size cubes
  • 2 large green capsicums (or any colour of your choice)
  • 2 tbsps. cooking oil
  • 1 tsp. cumin seeds
  • 2 tsps. coriander powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. red chilli powder (or sliced green chilli for extra hot)
  • 1 tsp. garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ONION, GARLIC, PEAS AND TOMATO OPTIONAL - I have prepared with or without these vegetables and both tasted delicious :-)
Method:
  • Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds and fry till spluttering stops.
  • Add the potatoes and powdered spices. Season with salt to taste and mix well.
  • Cook till potatoes are done, stirring frequently and gently to avoid breaking up of potatoes. Sprinkle some water only if needed.
  • Add the capsicum and cook for 2 more minutes. Sprinkle the garam masala powder and simmer till sauce become thick.
  • Serve hot with Chapati or plain boiled rice.
